10 Amazing Blake Lively Movies Worth Your Time

We may know her best as being the queen of the Upper East Side in Gossip Girl. But Blake Lively has come a long way since fighting with Queen B and eating lunch on the steps of the Met.

Gossip Girl wasn’t her first big role by any means, her breakout role was playing Bridget on The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and since then her career trajectory has just seemed to be on an incline.

She’s been focusing on movies as of late, such as The Age of Adaline and A Simple Favor, both of which were received fairly by critics.

She’s such a versatile actress and plays different roles each time she’s on the big screen, from fighting sharks to traveling in time – she’s done it all.

Lively is set to make her feature directorial debut with an upcoming film adaption of the graphic novel ‘Seconds’ and is set to reprise her role in the sequel of A Simple Favor. But until then, we’ll have to keep ourselves occupied with her other fantastic roles.

Here are 10 amazing movies that Blake Lively has starred in that you just need to watch!

10. Age Of Adaline (2015)

Original Release Date: April 24, 2015

About The Role

Adaline Bowman was in a near-fatal car crash and was then struck by lightning. After her brush with death, she discovers that she stops aging, staying 29 years old for 8 decades.

Due to this, she is continuously on the move to ensure people don’t find out her secret, but this all crumbles when she falls in love with a man named Ellis.

Lively is exceptional in this role, she may physically look 29 years old, but by the way she carries herself with elegance and grace, you can truly believe she is over 100 years old.

9. Savages (2012)

Original Release Date: July 6, 2012

About The Role

Ophelia, or O, is in love with the two men in her line, Chon and Ben. The three of them are in something akin to a polyamorous relationship.

O is kidnapped and used as a pawn to get to Chon and Ben, and considering how much they love her, they’ll do anything to save her life.

Lively again lives up to her acting standards in this movie. She reflects O’s emotions perfectly through the lighter and darker moments of the movie.

8. Accepted (2006)

Original Release Date: August 18, 2006

About The Role

Blake Lively plays Monica Moreland, a photography student and a love interest of Bartleby Gaines. At the beginning of the movie, Monica is dating the typical frat jerk who serves as the movie’s main antagonist.

Monica isn’t instilled with a lot of humor unfortunately, which is usually where Lively shines. But she plays her part with an impressive amount of warmth and commitment.

Whilst it wasn’t well reviewed by critics, this movie is still a good one to watch due to its slapstick comedy and unbelievable storyline.

7. All I See Is You (2017)

Original Release Date: October 27, 2017

About The Role

Lively stars in the leading role as a blind woman named Gina who lives with her husband James in Bangkok.

She undergoes a cutting-edge operation that restores her vision to her right eye. Now that she can see again, she soon realizes that her husband may not be the loving man she thought he was.

Again, this film wasn’t received well by critics and it bombed at the box office. But Lively plays her part exceptionally. She continues to prove how versatile she is as an actress and this movie showcases her ability to play darker and more surreal roles.

6. Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants (2005)

Original Release Date: June 1, 2005

About The Role

This movie was an adaptation on the beloved books series. Blake Lively plays Bridget Vreeland, who is one of the most confident and spirited girls in her group.

After they all go their separate ways, Bridget ends up going to soccer camp and has a brief relationship with her much older coach. After this ends, Bridget begins to spiral into a dark depression.

Bridget’s storyline is one of the darker ones in the book, but Lively did an excellent job in doing it justice. She was the perfect casting choice for Bridget, with many critics likening her personality to Blake’s herself.

5. The Town (2010)

Original Release Date: September 10, 2010

About The Role

Lively gets to play a much grittier role in this movie, she plays Kris, the girlfriend of Doug who is a known criminal, and she’s in on everything related to his criminal side.

Doug starts to fall in love with a hostage, which, understandably, causes problems with Kris.

Lively didn’t get a huge role in this movie, but she made herself stand out so much that she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress by San Diego Film Critics Society.

She serves as a catalyst for some of the events and her role directly ties in with some of the main conflicts.

4. Hick (2012)

Original Release Date: May 11, 2012

About The Role

Lively gets to play a much different character in this role, she plays a drifter named Glenda and begins to bond with Luli, a pistol-packing teen. The two end up forming a partnership of some sort as they escape the troubles they’re facing.

Lively plays a gritty, cocaine-addicted drifter in this drama and the challenge of playing a much different character definitely paid off.

Her relationship with Chloe Grace Mortez’s character is the main focus of the movie and it’s very compelling and interesting to watch since they work well together.

3. The Shallows (2016)

Original Release Date: June 24, 2016

About The Role

In this movie, Lively portrays a young woman named Nancy Adams. She ends up traveling to the same beach that her mother used to frequent in Baja, California.

But things start to take a turn for the worse, as she gets stranded in the ocean and is surrounded by a shark that is circling closer and closer.

Blake has to carry this entire movie on her back since she’s the focal point, and she does an immense job.

It’s surprising what they were able to do with a simple story of a woman being cornered by a shark and even more impressive that the movie centered on one character for most of its run time.

It has tons of tension, heart stopping moments and even heartwarming moments as we learn about Nancy’s past. There’s many shark movies out there, but The Shallows definitely delivers.

2. A Simple Favor (2018)

Original Release Date: September 14, 2018

About The Role

In this thriller, Lively plays the mysterious Emily Nelson who goes missing and ends up turning everyone’s world upside down.

This Gone-Girl inspired role was perfectly executed by Lively, from her comedic timing to her beautiful fashion sense, plus all the twisted things you get to see her do.

Her chemistry with Anna Kendrick is perfect, which is surprising since the two haven’t worked together before. This is definitely a movie you have to watch if you love thrillers and comedies.

1. Gossip Girl (2007-2012)

Original Release Date: It was originally released in 2007 on The CW and ran for 6 seasons before ending in 2012.

About The Role

Blake Lively played Serena Van der Woodsen, an It girl who returns back to New York City after mysteriously disappearing away to boarding school, the show mainly revolves around her and her BFF Blair Waldorf and their constant fights.

This is probably the role that Blake Lively is best known for. Her ever-changing relationships with the likes of Blair, Dan Humphrey, Nate Archibald and others makes the show so intriguing as we follow the lives of Manhattan’s elite.

Lively was able to play the party girl that every girl in the late 2010s wanted to be, and simultaneously she was able to show how flawed and troubled she was, even though she was perceived to be perfect.

If you love soapy dramas, Gossip Girl will be something for you. Its first few seasons were highly received by critics and Lively’s role as Serena is something that fans still talk about to this day.

Final Thoughts

Blake Lively has starred in numerous movies and shows, and these are only a handful of the best ones, in our opinion.

She’s such a versatile actress and constantly challenges herself by playing different characters to the last and she does an excellent job of it.

Some of the movies and shows she’s starred in haven’t been too well reviewed by critics, but she’s almost always a stand out in these movies and even in movies where her role isn’t as big as others, she still acts her heart out and that can be seen through the nominations for awards she’s gotten.

If you can, definitely give these movies a watch!
