What Is An AMC Black Ticket?

An AMC black ticket can be redeemed towards any movie. You’ll still be expected to pay any surcharges for special presentations and premium formats such as RealD, 3D, Dolby Cinema, IMAX, along with others.

Black tickets are the premier type of ticket type available and can be redeemed in any and all US states.

  • Valid: The black ticket can be used for any standard format movie at any AMC theater in any US state.
  • Restrictions: It can’t be used for most of the special attraction events, like double features, dine-in theaters, marathon events, certain foreign language films, specific alternative content, special theatrical presentations and opening night fan events.
  • Surcharges: There’s an additional cost for 3D films, festivals, IMAX, Dolby, AMC Prime and premium services.
  • Pros: Of all the ticket types, it’s the most flexible and covers the most.
  • Cons: When you purchase a black ticket, or redeem one for a movie, you won’t earn Stubs rewards.

What Is An AMC Yellow Ticket?

Yellow tickets are basically black tickets, just with a few extra restrictions. They can’t be used in California, New Jersey or New York, but on the bright side they’re cheaper!

  • Valid: The yellow ticket can be used at any standard format film at any AMC theater in the US, except for California, New Jersey and New York.
  • Pros: These tickets are cheaper than the AMC black ticket, so they’re better value if you live anywhere in the US except for California, New York or New Jersey.
  • Cons: When you purchase a yellow ticket, or redeem one for a movie, you won’t earn Stubs rewards.

Differences Between AMC Black And Yellow Tickets

There are only two big differences between black and yellow tickets: Black tickets cost more but can be used in any state, whilst yellow tickets cost less but can’t be used in CA, NY or NJ.

AMC Black Tickets Price

The typical price for an AMC black ticket is around $10, they’re available at Amazon, Costco, Sam’s Club and AMC of course.

Tickets on Amazon are usually sold by third-party vendors and Costco sells them in 2-packs with a $20 AMC gift card for $40.

AMC Yellow Ticket Price

The typical price for an AMC yellow ticket is around $9 and they’re available at Amazon, Costco, Sam’s Club and AMC. As long as you don’t live in the three excluded states, you can get decent savings on movies!

How To Use AMC Black Tickets

Using a yellow or black ticket couldn’t be easier. You can easily redeem them either online or in the theater.

Just note, if you are going to be redeeming the ticket online or from the app, you’ll have to pay a convenience fee, which can be quite annoying.

So we recommend that you redeem in-person if you’re not going for a popular movie or an opening weekend.

You can also redeem the yellow tickets either online or in-person at the theater. But again, you’ll have to pay the convenience fee so we recommend redeeming them in-person.

AMC Black Ticket Rules

One singular AMC black ticket can be redeemed for a single movie through the box office, online or on the AMC Theaters app.

They can be used at all AMC theater locations across the US for standard format movies (unless stated otherwise).

Premium formats and events, as described above are excluded. These tickets will never expire, so feel free to keep hold of them.

AMC Yellow Ticket Rules

One singular AMC yellow ticket can be redeemed for a single movie through the box office, online or on the AMC Theaters app. They can be used at all AMC theaters in 47 states (excluding California, New Jersey and New York).

Premium formats and events, as described above are excluded. These tickets too will never expire, so feel free to keep hold of them.

Can I Still Use AMC Gold Or AMC Silver Tickets?

AMC silver and gold tickets are no longer accepted, as they have now been rebranded as the AMC black and yellow tickets. But they can be easily exchanged for yellow and black tickets, simply head here for more information.

Can I Still Use AMC Green Or Red Tickets

Similar to AMC gold and silver tickets, red and green are no longer accepted either. But they can be exchanged for AMC black and yellow tickets.

They can be exchanged at the AMC box office, or online (just remember the convenience fee still applies online or on the app). AMC red tickets are not valid in California or New York.

You’ve probably realized by now that AMC releases different variations and colors of the AMC tickets that do the same thing. So comparing AMC green, red, silver and gold tickets is essentially the same as AMC black vs yellow tickets.
