Shrek is a household name, the animated movie franchise has smashed well over a billion at the box office.
The first movie debuted in 2001 and made just under half a billion dollars, it performed so well that three additional movies were made along with a fourth a few years after the trilogy.
The main question that everyone wonders is, is it a Disney movie? Well in this article we will look if Shrek is indeed a Disney movie and where you can watch it.
Is Shrek Disney?
Shrek is not a Disney movie. Unlike a large number of animated movies owned by Disney, Shrek is not one of them. The movie is owned by DreamWorks Animation.
The studio is the main competition to Pixar and is an incredibly successful animation franchise. The movie is loosely based on William Steig’s novel of the same name.
Is Shrek On Disney+
Shrek is not currently available on Disney Plus however if you live in certain regions you can watch Shrek on Hulu.
Unfortunately, Hulu has stated that they will be removing Shrek so enjoy it whilst you can because you will find it difficult to find it upon its removal.
Due to Disney only putting Disney products on their streaming service, it’s very unlikely that Shrek will ever be put on Disney+ so do not hold your breath.
Is Shrek On Netflix
Shrek was briefly available on Netflix in the UK and Canada but it was not available anywhere else in the world. However, even in the UK and Canada, its appearance was only a brief one as it’s not available anymore.
As of April 2022, the movie was taken off of Netflix meaning anybody who wishes to watch Shrek will have to rent or buy it another way.
Where Can I Watch Shrek
So you were able to watch Shrek on UK and Canadian Netflix and on Hulu in America, however, both of these are no longer options for you if you would like to watch Shrek.
There are multiple platforms where you can pay to watch Shrek, the main one being Amazon Prime.
Other platforms where you can choose to rent or buy Shrek are iTunes, YouTube, Vudu, and Google Play.
Now we have covered where Shrek can be watched. Let’s talk about the big green Ogre himself and the other movies that he stars in.
How Tall Is Shrek
Whilst there is not a set height for Shrek, in some of the movies he is listed at a staggering 7 to 8 feet tall. In Shrek 2 he measures in at a gigantic 7 foot 2 inches.
However, there are some internet sleuths who have worked out that Shrek is in fact an incomprehensible 14 feet tall.
At 14 feet tall Shrek would be as tall as a female Giraffe which when you think about it maybe he is as scary as some of the characters in the movie believe him to be.
How Old Is Shrek
Once again there is no definitive answer to this question. Some sources say that in the first Shrek movie Shrek was 106 years old! Others state that both Shrek and his wife Fiona are 30 years old during the first movie.
How Many Shrek Movies Are There?
There are currently four Shrek movies, with a fifth on the way currently planned for a 2023 release.
The main Shrek franchise movies are:
- Shrek – Released in 2001 and made $487.9 million at the box office
- Shrek 2 – Released in 2004 and made $928.7 million at the box office

There is also the spin-off movie Puss in Boots centered around the side character introduced in Shrek 2 who became an instant fan favorite. The movie was released in 2011 and made $555 million at the box office.
Who Voices Shrek
Shrek is voiced by the legendary actor, director, and producer Mike Myers. Myers is an award-winning actor who has won accolades ranging from the MTV awards to a Primetime Emmy Award.
He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Shrek is a timeless classic that will continue to entertain for generations to come and let’s hope there are many more movies on the horizon after the fifth installment is released.
Hopefully, you know now that Shrek is not a Disney movie and where you can watch it.
